Trust isn’t built through big gestures or perfectly polished leadership moments. It’s built through small, consistent signals—especially in how you communicate.
Women leaders often assume trust takes time. In reality, trust can form quickly when your words and actions signal clarity, care, and reliability. This week, we’re focusing on how women leaders create trust—fast.
What Builds Trust Quickly (and What Doesn’t)

Trust grows when people experience you as:
Clear, not confusing
Consistent, not performative
Direct, not defensive
Human, not over-polished
It weakens when communication feels vague, overly cautious, or emotionally distant.
Trust-Building Behavior #1: Say What You Know—and What You Don’t
Instead of: "I’ll look into it and get back to you.”
Try: "I don’t have the answer yet, but here’s what I know so far—and I’ll follow up by Thursday.”
Why it works: Honesty + follow-through builds credibility faster than certainty ever will.
Trust-Building Behavior #2: Name the Tension (Calmly)
Instead of: (Skipping over awkwardness or disagreement)
Try: "I sense there may be some concerns here—let’s talk through them.”
Why it works: Naming what others feel but aren’t saying creates psychological safety and positions you as a grounded leader.
Trust-Building Behavior #3: Be Clear About Expectations
Instead of: "Let’s touch base soon.”
Try: "Let’s reconnect next Tuesday with a draft and key questions.”
Why it works: Clarity reduces anxiety. People trust leaders who remove ambiguity.
You don’t need to be louder, warmer, or more accommodating to build trust. You need to be clear, consistent, and grounded. That’s how women leaders earn trust quickly—and keep it.
Warmly,
Marie Book
