Public speaking is often framed as a stage skill—something reserved for keynote speakers or conference panels.

But for professional women, public speaking is really a leadership skill.

Every time you present an idea in a meeting, explain a strategy, or advocate for a decision, you are speaking publicly. And the ability to communicate clearly and confidently in those moments can significantly shape your visibility, credibility, and influence.

Reframe: Public Speaking Is Everyday Leadership

Strong speakers are often perceived as:

  • More confident

  • More credible

  • More prepared

  • More ready for leadership

Even when their ideas are the same as others in the room.

That’s because how you communicate your thinking often determines how seriously it’s taken.

Scenario #1 Presenting an Idea

Instead of: "I just wanted to share something we might want to consider…”

Try: "One opportunity we should consider is expanding this approach to our client onboarding process.”

Why it works: You remove hesitation and present your idea with clarity and authority.

Scenario #2: Presenting to Leadership

Instead of: Walking through every detail first

Try: "The key takeaway is that this strategy could reduce onboarding time by 20%. Let me show you how.”

Why it works: You lead with impact before diving into explanation.

Scenario #3: Introducing Yourself

Instead of: "I work in marketing and help with some campaigns…”

Try: "I lead marketing initiatives focused on growing our client partnerships and expanding our brand presence.”

Why it works: You frame your work with ownership and impact.

A Simple Speaking Structure

Whenever you’re presenting an idea, try this structure:

1. The Point – What’s the main message?

2. The Impact – Why does it matter?

3. The Next Step – What should happen next?

This simple framework helps your audience follow—and remember—what you say.

Public speaking isn’t about performing. It's about making your thinking visible.

And when your ideas are communicated clearly and confidently, people are far more likely to listen, remember, and act. Learn how to communicate with confidence in the moments that matter most. Join us at She Speaks Saturday March 28th.

Warmly,
